Starting this page July 25/26 shows extremely bright and compact bands. Later the display gave birth to complex structures. In NLC-morphology category IV clouds are named "whirls". One kind of a whirl can be identified in images vy28923 and vy28932. Whirls are defined as "partial or complete rings of cloud with dark centres", but it is also stated that "they are sometimes seen in veil, band and billow forms" - so much of the "dark centres"!
