Superior mirage distorting islands, page #6

On these pages images have been grouped in such a way that of a particular island different kinds of distortions are together; in some cases they are also compiled into composite images. There was some general discussion of superior mirages on page 1.

Haze and long distances often ruin hopes of a good superior mirage display. There is, however, a partial solution to this: check the sunset and the sunrise! Sun is bright enough to penetrate all haze and so provides a good target to trace mirages. On the bottom of his page there are some samples of superior mirages distorting the setting sun. For more recent images see f.ex. sun page 8, sun page 10 and sun page 11.

For a more comprehensive approach to the subject see Andew T. Young's great pages.
