Due to poor weather on nights with auroras, only a few of the very few good displays could be admired. Actually, 19/20August was the only good night and even then I was late to observe the very peak of a very bright display. Here all images with water are from that night. A "surprise sunspot" #10930 rotated into view during the first week of Dec, and later it gave birth to four X-class explosions. One of them caused a very severe magnetic storm on the 16th, but due to poor weather only some faint rays could be seen through clouds. (Not posted.)
My latitude 60N has not since 2006 experienced any reasonable aurora show - not to speak of a great show. Just five samples from April 2009 were posted in April 2011! The greens in my first digital auroras are still too caramel even though saturation was greatly reduced.
